The Eighth National RAC (and MAC) Summit is now soliciting presentation proposals for the conference on December 4-6, 2013 at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City near Reagan Arport. Hospitals with best practices in areas such as CDI, use of PEPPER, physician advisor roles, use of the discussion period, appeals, UR staffing, RAC peer-to-peer, rebilling, tracking and trending, Medicaid and commercial health plan audits, patient communications, dashboards, Board involvement, physician education, etc. are encouraged to submit proposals, as are solutions companies and law frms working with hospitals. CMS ISSUES NEW PROPOSED RULE ON PART B BILLING WHEN PART A DENIED
CMS published a proposed rule on March 13 allowing hospitals that were denied payment because an inpatient stay was not reasonable and necessary to rebill the claim under Part B in accordance with the rule's requirements. This is a temporary ruling until the proposed rule is finalized. The period for comment on the proposed rule is 60 days from the date of publication. Click here to access the proposed language. State Medicaid RAC Program Status

Section 6411 of the Affordable Care Act of 2010 required States and territories to establish Medicaid Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) programs. This interactive map summarizes the current status of each jurisdiction's RAC program, based on the information submitted in its State Plan Amendment (SPA).

By arranging to license online group access to the Summit Medicare RAC Certificate Program, health care providers subject to RAC audits can implement an organization-wide online Certificate Program on preparing for, responding to and appealing a RAC audit. The organization's training coordinator can assign and track online participation. Successful completion of the training can be evidenced by passing the post conference training examination.
