RAC CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS
Overview

The National RAC Summit series has always offered a RAC Certificate Program in the form of an optional course within the conference for attendees wishing to take a deeper dive into the Summit's subject matter. In 2013 the Summit was pleased to offer a special Certificate Program in connection with the July 22-24 Physician Advisor - UR Boot Camp in Chicago as well as a Basic program at the Eighth National RAC (and MAC) Summit on December 4-6, 2013 in DC.

The December 2013 RAC Certificate Program Curriculum and Requirements are as Follows:

  • Complete preconference readings (as needed, up to 4 hours). Click here to access the page.
  • Complete online training modules prepared by Davis Wright Tremaine and Deloitte & Touche
  • Attend the preconference (4 hours).
  • Attend the entire RAC Summit (12 hours).
  • Successfully complete the post-conference online examination (1 hour).

Who Should Attend?

Those who are interested in understanding and working successfully in the rapidly expanding Medicare MAC and RAC environment, together with issues arising from implementation of the new Medicaid RACs. The material is heavily focused on hospital issues and to a lesser extent on physician practices as well, particularly in areas of joint risk. Hospital RAC liaisons, clinicians, compliance officers, CFOs, medical coding and billing staff, patient accounts managers, and other financial and auditing personnel are prime candidates for the certificate programs. Group discounts encourage participation by an entire RAC team.

Learning Objectives

The purpose of the RAC Certificate Programs is to give participants the understanding and tools necessary to work successfully with the new Medicare MAC and RAC processes, requirements, and timetable, as well as issues with Medicaid audits and Medicaid RACs. By the end of this training, participants will be able to create an action plan that will outline key initiatives to be taken with respect to MAC and RAC implementation and tracking in their own organizations.

Program Description

This is a practical, in-depth program for professionals who want to understand MAC and RAC issues in the context of their own local settings. The program at the July Boot Camp is specific to Physician Advisor and UR team issues. At the December RAC Summit there is a Basic program that is geared to those who have had limited training. Participants have 90 days to complete the online examination and earn a certificate of completion.

Program Completion

Those who successfully complete the program requirements (see the five bulleted requirements above), including preconference readings and an online post conference test with a score of seventy percent (70%) or more, will receive a certificate of completion of the RAC Certificate Program.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the RAC Certificate Program a professional certification program?
It is not. The program constitutes an attempt to organize a focused curriculum around implementation strategies and issues pertaining to recovery audts, while giving evidence of successful completion of that body of knowledge through the issuance of a certificate of completion.

Please describe the post-meeting online examination.
The post-meeting online examinations are each a multi-question examination based upon the information made available in the preconference readings, online courses, preconferences, and the Summit itself. Candidates may take the examination at any time during the ninety (90) days following the Summit and will have one hour to complete the examination, once you have commenced it. Three attempts are allowed, with new questions rotating through the examination. Candidates must score seventy percent (70%) or more to complete this requirement successfully.

Has any other conference offered a comparable certificate program?
Yes, the Quality Colloquium at Harvard University, www.QualityColloquium.com, has offered a Patient Safety Certificate Program for the past four years. Similar training programs have been offered in connection with the National Medical Home Summit, the National Disclosure Summit, the Population Health and Care Coordination Colloquium, and the National Medicare Readmissions Summit.
